PTAC error codes: how to read and clear them

Most PTAC brands store fault codes that can be shown with a button combination on the control (for example GE Zoneline uses a MODE + another key sequence on some models). Read the active code, fix the cause, then clear it.

Post-2006: Whirlpool-family numbering.

Manufacture date from the serial number

Cross-checked

Three eras. (1) About 2006 on: Whirlpool style, character 2 = year, characters 3-4 = week. (2) Maytag era: last two letters = year letter + month letter. (3) Older Amana (before about 2002): first two digits = year, next two digits = week.

EXAMPLE ONLY: old Amana 9814123456 -> 98 = 1998, week 14.

Era 1 is confirmed by two sources (building-center + servicemag listing Amana in the Whirlpool family). The older Raytheon-era rule comes from one source only.
