Frigidaire · 8 codes
Frigidaire · Freezer
DF
Defrost circuit fault (single source)
Reported as the automatic defrost not completing, which lets frost choke the evaporator until the cabinet warms.
Frigidaire · Freezer
Door Ajar
Door open too long
The door switch has reported the door open for about five minutes or more.
Frigidaire · Freezer
H / HI / High Temp
High temperature alarm
The cabinet has stayed warmer than the alarm limit for a set period (Frigidaire states over one hour; other sources give 20 min to 1 h depending on model). After a long outage the alarm can stay on until the unit pulls back down.
Frigidaire · Freezer
OP
Freezer sensor open
The freezer cabinet thermistor circuit reads open, so the control has no temperature reading.
Frigidaire · Freezer
PF
Power failure alert
The control saw power drop out and come back. It is a notice, not a part failure, but it can be followed by a high-temperature alarm if the cabinet warmed up.
Frigidaire · Freezer
SH
Freezer sensor shorted
The freezer cabinet thermistor reads as a short, so the control sees an impossible temperature.
Frigidaire · Freezer
SY CF
Main board to display communication fault
The main control and the display (user interface) board are not talking to each other; the display may be blank or garbled.
Frigidaire · Freezer
SY EF
Evaporator fan circuit fault (single source)
Reported as the board not detecting the evaporator fan, so cold air is not being moved through the cabinet.
GE · 2 codes
GE · Freezer
High Temp alarm (flashing temperature)
High temperature alarm
The cabinet is warmer than safe storage temperature, often after an outage or with a door left open. The alarm sounds and the temperature display flashes; Alarm Reset silences it but the High Temp indicator stays until the cabinet recovers.
GE · Freezer
PF
Power failure notice (unverified)
Reported as a notice that power was interrupted and has returned.
Haier · 4 codes
Haier · Freezer
E3
Compressor overload
Compressor thermal protector tripped.
Haier · Freezer
E4
High-temperature alarm
Interior rose above about 15°F.
Haier · Freezer
E5
Board communication error
Display and control boards not communicating.
Haier · Freezer
E7
Condenser fan fault
Condenser fan fault.
Hisense · 8 codes
Hisense · Freezer
E1
Temperature sensor fault
Main thermistor reading is abnormal.
Hisense · Freezer
E2
Defrost sensor fault
Defrost (evaporator) sensor fault; manual-defrost units do not have this sensor.
Hisense · Freezer
E3
High-temperature alarm
Cabinet temperature rose too high.
Hisense · Freezer
E5
Display/control communication error
The display and control boards are not communicating.
Hisense · Freezer
E7
Condenser fan fault
Condenser fan fault.
Hisense · Freezer
F1
Compressor start failure
Compressor not starting.
Hisense · Freezer
F2
Compressor over-temperature
Compressor thermal protection is active.
Hisense · Freezer
F3
Power supply abnormality
Supply voltage problem.
Midea · 4 codes
Midea · Freezer
E1 / E2 / E3
Temperature sensor problem
Midea lists E1 through E3 as sensor faults; the FAQ does not say which sensor each number refers to.
Midea · Freezer
E6
Main/display board communication failure
Midea lists E6 as a loss of communication between the main board and the display board.
Midea · Freezer
E9
High temperature alert
Midea lists E9 as a high-temperature alert.
Midea · Freezer
Ed
Door open alert
Midea lists Ed as the door being open for more than 120 seconds.
Viking · 4 codes
Viking · Freezer
E3
Evaporator fan fault
Evaporator fan not running or no speed feedback.
Viking · Freezer
E4
Defrost failure
Defrost did not bring the coil to temperature in time.
Viking · Freezer
E5
Compressor / start circuit fault
Compressor or starting circuit fault.
Viking · Freezer
E7
Door open too long / door switch conflict
Door left open or door switch giving conflicting signals.
Whirlpool · 2 codes
Whirlpool · Freezer
Running light off
Compressor running indicator (green)
Not a fault code. The green Running light is lit while the compressor is working and off when it has cycled off. Indicators dim to half brightness after 30 minutes without input.
Whirlpool · Freezer
Super Freezing light
Super/fast freeze mode on
Not a fault. The blue Super Freezing light means the unit is in its fast-freeze mode, so the compressor will run longer than usual.
Whirlpool / Maytag / Amana · 4 codes
Whirlpool / Maytag / Amana · Freezer
CF
Board communication failure (single source)
Reported as the main control and display board losing communication.
Whirlpool / Maytag / Amana · Freezer
H / HI
High temperature display (single source)
Reported as the display showing H or HI (or flashing the temperature) when the cabinet is above the alarm threshold.
Whirlpool / Maytag / Amana · Freezer
PO
Power outage detected (single source)
Reported as a notice that power was lost and restored.
Whirlpool / Maytag / Amana · Freezer
Temperature alarm (buzzer)
Temperature alarm sounding
The buzzer sounds when the cabinet reaches about 10°F above the normal temperature for the selected setting. A 3-position switch tests (right), arms (left) or disables (center) the alarm.
