Large-capacity Whirlpool side-by-side. Unlike older side-by-sides with the ice bin inside the freezer, this one moves the ice bin to the freezer door (In-Door-Ice), freeing a full freezer shelf. Exterior dispenser with Measured Fill, EveryDrop filter, FreshFlow air filter, Accu-Chill and Adaptive Defrost. Safety first

How it works

Single evaporator behind the freezer rear panel; the fan sends air through the freezer and through a damper/duct into the fresh-food side. Sealed-system work is referral only (EPA 608).

Adaptive Defrost runs the heater only when the control decides it is needed (Abt).

Ice is stored in a bin on the freezer door and delivered to the exterior dispenser; water reaches the door through tubing at the hinge.

Measured Fill dispenses a set volume (ounces, cups or liters) and stops on its own (Abt).

Samsung asks owners not to unplug or press buttons to make a code go away, because that erases what the technician needs; only a few power-related codes are cleared by a 60-second power cut. An OF OF or similar display is Cooling Off (demo) mode, not a fault. The test mode is entered by holding a model-specific pair of buttons until the display blanks, then pressing a button to step through modes, one of which is forced defrost (Fd).

LG's Smart Diagnosis sends the appliance's status to the ThinQ app over Wi-Fi or, on older models, as an audible tone the phone picks up near the appliance speaker; the app then shows the result. Refrigerator preventive service: condenser coil cleaning, condenser fan and door gasket check

Whirlpool says routine condenser cleaning is often not needed in a normal home but recommends inspecting and cleaning every few months where there is dust, grease or pets; older GE manuals say at least yearly. Many current GE models have a sealed 'NeverClean' condenser that needs no cleaning, and some Whirlpool models can only be cleaned by a technician. Know which design you have before you pull the fridge out. Finish with a gasket and door-seal check.
