Covers: Samsung Bespoke AI 4-Door Flex 36-inch units launched for 2024: standard-depth RF29DB96**, RF29DB97**, RF29DB9750** and RF29DB99** (28.6-29.0 cu ft) and counter-depth RF23DB97**, RF23DB9750** and RF23DB99** (22.5-22.8 cu ft). Samsung's 2024 Bespoke 4-Door Flex: two French doors on top, a convertible FlexZone drawer on the lower right, a freezer drawer on the lower left, no through-the-door dispenser, and a Beverage Center inside (an internal water dispenser plus an AutoFill pitcher). Safety first

  • Unplug before removing covers, fans, heaters, sensors or door harness connectors.
  • Shut off and bleed the water supply before opening the valve or fill lines.
  • This family uses R-600a (isobutane), which is flammable: no open flame, sparks or brazing near the machine compartment, and ventilate if you suspect a leak.
  • Never chip ice off an evaporator with tools; a punctured coil is a sealed-system failure.
  • Live checks at the main board, compressor drive or Family Hub screen are caution work: insulated probes, one hand, no jewelry.
  • Sealed refrigerant system (compressor replacement, leak repair, recharge, brazing) is blocked: confirm the symptom, protect the food and refer to an EPA 608-certified technician.

How it works

Bottom-freezer cabinet with a board-driven variable-speed compressor in the machine compartment at the bottom rear. ENERGY STAR lists R-600a for every RF29DB and RF23DB variant. Isobutane is flammable, so any sealed-system concern is referral only, and you keep sparks and flames away from the machine compartment during a leak complaint.

There is no door dispenser (ENERGY STAR: through-the-door dispenser No). Filtered water feeds the Beverage Center inside the fresh-food section: an internal dispenser and a pitcher that refills itself. Slow or no water is usually the filter, house pressure or the inlet valve, not a frozen door line.

The lower-right FlexZone drawer (about 5.8 cu ft on retailer listings) can be set to run as a freezer or a fridge. A customer saying the drawer is 'too warm' or 'freezing the drinks' may simply have the wrong mode set, so check the panel or the SmartThings app before you open anything.

Auto Open Door uses a powered opener to push a door open on request (how it is triggered is in the user manual). Samsung's own guidance says that on some models the feature ships turned off, it is switched on from the panel or the Family Hub screen, and the opening angle depends on the cabinet being level and on how heavy the door bins are loaded. Read the tech sheet for the opener's location and test values.

Defrost is board-controlled with heater, sensor and thermal-fuse backup on each evaporator. Melt water drains to a pan under the cabinet. The Samsung platform forced-defrost mode (see below) is the fastest way to prove a defrost fault.

Samsung refrigerators: reading display codes, Cooling Off (demo) mode, and forced defrost (Fd) / test mode concepts

Samsung asks owners not to unplug or press buttons to make a code go away, because that erases what the technician needs; only a few power-related codes are cleared by a 60-second power cut. An OF OF or similar display is Cooling Off (demo) mode, not a fault. The test mode is entered by holding a model-specific pair of buttons until the display blanks, then pressing a button to step through modes, one of which is forced defrost (Fd).

LG's Smart Diagnosis sends the appliance's status to the ThinQ app over Wi-Fi or, on older models, as an audible tone the phone picks up near the appliance speaker; the app then shows the result. A fridge that looks normal but does not cool may simply be in display (demo) mode. LG also has service test modes that run fans, compressor and defrost on command; entry varies by model and should come from the service sheet.

Refrigerator preventive service: condenser coil cleaning, condenser fan and door gasket check

Whirlpool says routine condenser cleaning is often not needed in a normal home but recommends inspecting and cleaning every few months where there is dust, grease or pets; older GE manuals say at least yearly. Many current GE models have a sealed 'NeverClean' condenser that needs no cleaning, and some Whirlpool models can only be cleaned by a technician. Know which design you have before you pull the fridge out. Finish with a gasket and door-seal check.
