GE Profile's 2023 4-door with no through-the-door dispenser: water comes from an internal dispenser and a 60 oz Dual-Dispense AutoFill pitcher in the left door, and ice from a factory ice maker in the freezer. Safety first

R-600a refrigerant is flammable: no flame, sparks or brazing near the machine compartment; ventilate if you suspect a leak.

Sealed refrigerant system work is blocked: refer to an EPA 608-certified technician.

How it works

TwinChill means separate evaporators for the fresh-food and freezer sides (GE spec page; a Canadian retailer also lists dual evaporators). A fault on one side can leave the other running normally, so check both frost patterns before blaming the sealed system.

GE lists 'Frost Guard' defrost. The board times the defrost; heater, sensor and backup protection are on the evaporator. Melt water runs to the drain pan at the bottom rear.

Water path: filter (XWFE) in the left door, feeding the internal dispenser and the AutoFill pitcher, which fills itself when docked. Slow-fill complaints are usually the filter, house pressure or the valve, or a pitcher not seated.

The center Select Temp drawer has five electronic settings (meats, beverages, snacks, wine and lock). A drawer 'too cold' or 'too warm' complaint is often just the setting.

GE lists R-600a refrigerant, which is flammable: sealed-system work is referral only.

Samsung asks owners not to unplug or press buttons to make a code go away, because that erases what the technician needs; only a few power-related codes are cleared by a 60-second power cut. An OF OF or similar display is Cooling Off (demo) mode, not a fault. The test mode is entered by holding a model-specific pair of buttons until the display blanks, then pressing a button to step through modes, one of which is forced defrost (Fd).

LG's Smart Diagnosis sends the appliance's status to the ThinQ app over Wi-Fi or, on older models, as an audible tone the phone picks up near the appliance speaker; the app then shows the result. A fridge that looks normal but does not cool may simply be in display (demo) mode. LG also has service test modes that run fans, compressor and defrost on command; entry varies by model and should come from the service sheet.

Whirlpool says routine condenser cleaning is often not needed in a normal home but recommends inspecting and cleaning every few months where there is dust, grease or pets; older GE manuals say at least yearly. Many current GE models have a sealed 'NeverClean' condenser that needs no cleaning, and some Whirlpool models can only be cleaned by a technician. Know which design you have before you pull the fridge out. Finish with a gasket and door-seal check.
