LG's counter-depth line built to hold standard-depth capacity: two French doors over one freezer drawer, a full-width Glide N' Serve drawer inside the fresh-food section, a through-the-door ice and water dispenser fed by an in-door ice maker, and a freezer Craft Ice maker that makes slow-melting round ice. How it works

LG lists one evaporator and two temperature sensors on the LRRXC2606. Cold air from that one coil serves the freezer, the fresh-food section and the door ice compartment, so a frosted coil or stopped fan usually causes more than one complaint.

Ice comes from more than one ice maker: the in-door ice maker makes cubed and crushed ice for the dispenser, and a freezer ice maker makes Craft Ice spheres. LG rates Craft Ice at about 0.7 lb a day, so 'it only makes a few balls a day' is normal output, not a fault. A Canadian retailer listing for the LRYXC describes two freezer ice makers (mini cubes and Craft Ice) besides the door ice maker; check the user manual for the exact layout on the unit in front of you.

The Smart Inverter compressor runs at variable speed under main-board control. LG lists R-600a at 78 g (2.75 oz), which is flammable: sealed-system work is referral only.

Defrost is board-controlled with heater, sensor and fuse backup. LG's board-level test mode forces cooling, the damper and a defrost.

Samsung asks owners not to unplug or press buttons to make a code go away, because that erases what the technician needs; only a few power-related codes are cleared by a 60-second power cut. An OF OF or similar display is Cooling Off (demo) mode, not a fault. The test mode is entered by holding a model-specific pair of buttons until the display blanks, then pressing a button to step through modes, one of which is forced defrost (Fd).

Whirlpool says routine condenser cleaning is often not needed in a normal home but recommends inspecting and cleaning every few months where there is dust, grease or pets; older GE manuals say at least yearly.
