Summit 24 in undercounter all-refrigerators FF6 series (incl. ADA 32 in): quick sheet
Covers: Summit Appliance 24 in wide undercounter all-refrigerators of the FF6 family: FF6BK2SS / FF6BK2SSADA (5.8 cu ft, ADA version about 32 1/8 in tall), the older FF6BKBIADA built-in ADA unit (5.5 cu ft, 32 1/4 in, now replaced by FF63BKADA), panel-ready IF versions and LHD (left-hinge) SKUs. Accucold is Summit's general-purpose / medical label; Accucold and some Summit 'general purpose' cabinets are not built to DOE residential rules and are serviced the same way but must not be swapped into a medical/vaccine role without the right certification.
European-built compact all-refrigerators that show up in condos, ADA kitchens, offices, hotels and dorm suites. One compressor, a back-wall (cold-wall) evaporator with automatic cycle defrost, a mechanical dial thermostat inside (digital thermostat and keypad locks are options), and R-600a refrigerant. Typical calls: ice building on the rear wall, water in the bottom, a warm box from blocked airflow in a tight built-in, and door seal or lock issues.
Safety first
- Unplug (or switch off the breaker on an undercounter outlet) before removing covers.
- R-600a is flammable: no flames or sparks near the compressor area on a leak complaint.
- Never chip ice off the cold wall with tools.
- Sealed-system work (compressor, leak, recharge, brazing) is blocked: confirm the symptom and refer to an EPA 608-certified technician.
- If the unit stores medication or vaccines, stop and hand it to the facility's responsible person; general-purpose units are not certified for that role.
How it works
Cold-wall cycle defrost: while the compressor runs, frost or a thin ice sheet forms on the rear wall; in the off cycle it melts, runs into a trough and a drain hole at the bottom rear, and goes to a tray over the compressor. Summit's manuals tell owners this is normal and to keep the ice under about 1/2 in.
The shelves stop about an inch short of the back wall on purpose: that gap is what lets air move over the cold wall and lets the defrost water drain. Food pushed against the wall freezes and blocks the drain.
Thermostat is a mechanical dial inside the cabinet; position 0 / STOP turns the cooling off. After a power loss or switch-off, Summit says to wait 3-5 minutes before restarting so the compressor can equalize.
Refrigerant is R-600a (isobutane), charge about 0.64 oz on the FF6 pages. Flammable: no sparks or flame at the back, and sealed-system work is referral only.
The ADA models are made about 32 in tall to fit under lowered ADA counters. Built-in use depends on the model; check the spec page and installation guide for front venting and clearances before blaming the sealed system for a warm box.
