Counter-depth Gallery 4-door built in Thailand (country of origin per one distributor listing) with the TwinTech cooling system, a convertible middle drawer and PurePour Connect filtration (FPPWFU01). One retailer lists R-600a (isobutane) refrigerant: check the rating label, because a hydrocarbon charge changes what is safe near the machine compartment.

Safety first

  • Unplug the refrigerator (or switch off its circuit) before removing panels, the machine-compartment cover or any harness.
  • Close the water supply before working on the inlet valve, filter head or door water lines; keep towels down.
  • Sealed system (compressor, condenser, evaporator tubing, refrigerant): diagnosis only. Charging, brazing or opening the system is EPA 608 work for a certified technician.
  • Never chip ice off the evaporator with tools; a punctured tube vents refrigerant and ends the repair.
  • Defrost heaters and metal frames get hot; let them cool before handling.
  • Get help moving the unit: these refrigerators weigh well over 300 lb.
  • If the rating label lists R-600a (isobutane), keep flames and spark sources away from the unit when a leak is suspected and ventilate the room.

How it works

TwinTech cooling (Frigidaire's name) is marketed as even temperature and airflow in both sections; the tech sheet on the unit shows how the evaporators and fans are arranged on your revision.

The middle convertible drawer can be set from about -6 °F to 45 °F with three presets (refrigerate, chill, freeze), so it can behave like a freezer or a fridge: ask the customer what it was set to before diagnosing it.

Ice is made on the fresh-food side and dispensed through the left door with an exterior dispenser.

Water passes the PurePour Connect filter (FPPWFU01) in the fresh-food section.

Samsung asks owners not to unplug or press buttons to make a code go away, because that erases what the technician needs; only a few power-related codes are cleared by a 60-second power cut. An OF OF or similar display is Cooling Off (demo) mode, not a fault. The test mode is entered by holding a model-specific pair of buttons until the display blanks, then pressing a button to step through modes, one of which is forced defrost (Fd).

LG's Smart Diagnosis sends the appliance's status to the ThinQ app over Wi-Fi or, on older models, as an audible tone the phone picks up near the appliance speaker; the app then shows the result. Refrigerator preventive service: condenser coil cleaning, condenser fan and door gasket check

Whirlpool says routine condenser cleaning is often not needed in a normal home but recommends inspecting and cleaning every few months where there is dust, grease or pets; older GE manuals say at least yearly. Many current GE models have a sealed 'NeverClean' condenser that needs no cleaning, and some Whirlpool models can only be cleaned by a technician. Know which design you have before you pull the fridge out. Finish with a gasket and door-seal check.
