A plain front-control Whirlpool gas slide-in: four sealed burners (two 15,000 BTU SpeedHeat, 9,500 and 5,000 BTU simmer), knobs for the burners, a tap-touch oven control, hidden bake, top broil and high-heat self-clean, no convection. Parts listings show a spark (direct spark ignition) bake igniter rather than a glow-bar, so oven no-heat diagnosis follows the DSI pattern: spark, flame sense, valve (blocked).

Safety first

Gas valves, regulator, orifices, connector and LP conversion: blocked; shut the gas and refer to a licensed gas technician.
If you smell gas: leave, do not operate switches, call the gas utility.
Spark systems produce high-voltage pulses: unplug before handling leads.
Reinstall the anti-tip bracket.

How it works

Supply: 120 V; retailer listings disagree on the amp figure (15 A vs 40 A); a standard 120 V grounded outlet on its own circuit is the normal Whirlpool gas-range requirement, but confirm with the install guide.

Surface: turning a knob closes its spark switch, the spark module fires the electrodes until the knob leaves LITE; gas flows through the burner valve (blocked).

Oven (DSI): on a bake call the control energizes the spark module and the oven gas valve, sparks at the bake electrode, then watches for flame (flame sense through the electrode). No flame within the trial time ends in a lockout/ignition fault. Broil works the same way with the top broil electrode.

Self-clean locks the door with a latch motor and runs high heat; Frozen Bake is a software mode (no preheat for frozen foods).

Electric range trips the breaker or blows a fuse

Use the timing of the trip to split the problem. A trip at power-up, with every control off, points to the supply cord, terminal block, internal wiring or the breaker itself. A trip only when one element or mode is turned on points to that element (usually shorted to its sheath) or its switch and wiring. Rule out a weak or undersized breaker last, after the range itself tests clean.

Electric range partly works: display on, oven or big elements won't heat

An electric range runs its electronics and lights on 120 V (one hot leg to neutral) but heats with 240 V across both legs. If one leg is lost, the range looks alive but cannot heat properly. Typical causes are half of the double-pole breaker tripped or failed, a burned terminal block or cord connection, or a damaged receptacle. A building on 208 V will heat, just more slowly.

Oven keeps heating when turned off or overheats past setpoint

This is a fire hazard: turn the breaker off first, then diagnose. On electronic controls the usual cause is a relay on the control board whose contacts have welded closed. On dial ovens it is a stuck thermostat or selector contact. Less often a shorted sensor or harness is to blame. On gas ovens, a burner that won't shut off is a gas-valve problem and goes to a licensed gas technician.
