Waste King Legend L-3200 (3/4 HP) and L-8000 (1 HP) disposals: quick sheet
Covers: Waste King Legend series continuous-feed disposals L-3200 (3/4 HP) and L-8000 (1 HP), both corded, built by Anaheim Manufacturing (a Moen company). The batch-feed L-8000TC shares the 1 HP motor class but has its own manual and warranty. For the Legend L-2600 and the Moen GX family see the Anaheim (Waste King / Moen) quick sheet.
Two of the most common replacement disposals sold at big-box stores. Both use a high-speed permanent-magnet motor, stainless grind parts in a polymer grind chamber, a pre-installed cord and the twist-on EZ Mount. Most calls are jams, a tripped reset, a leak at the dishwasher inlet or discharge, or a mount that was not fully locked. Deep diagnostics: see the continuous-feed disposal field service manual and the disposal hum, leak and no-power guides.
Safety first
- Never put a hand in the grind chamber; use tongs, with power off and the unit unplugged.
- Hard-wired units: breaker off and verify dead before opening the wiring cover.
How it works
A permanent-magnet DC-style motor spins the grind plate at about 2,700 RPM (L-3200) or 2,800 RPM (L-8000). Permanent-magnet units start fast and are less prone to stalling than older induction disposals, but a hard object can still jam them.
Swivel lugs on the plate throw food against a stationary grind ring; water carries the slurry out the 1-1/2 in discharge.
The EZ Mount is a twist-on plastic mount that ships with its own sink flange. It is not the same as a 3-bolt mount; on a swap from a 3-bolt unit, fit the new flange and mount that come in the box.
A manual-reset thermal overload on the bottom of the motor cuts power if the motor overheats or stalls. A hex socket in the bottom center lets you turn the motor by hand to free a jam (power off first).
