Waste King, Whirlaway and Moen disposals (Anaheim-built): quick sheet
Covers: Continuous-feed disposals from Anaheim Manufacturing (a Moen subsidiary): Waste King Legend / Pro / Custom, Whirlaway, and Moen GX / GX Pro series. Mount type (EZ Mount vs 3-bolt) and motor speed vary by model; read the label.
These units differ from InSinkErator mainly in the motor: most use a high-speed permanent-magnet DC motor (Moen calls it Vortex) that reaches full speed almost instantly. Many models have no hex socket on the bottom, so jams are freed from above with a jam wrench on the turntable. Two mounting systems exist and are not interchangeable with InSinkErator's Quick Lock without changing the sink flange.
Safety first
- Never put a hand in the chamber
- Unplug or kill the breaker before freeing a jam
- Confirm power off before opening the electrical cover
How it works
A permanent-magnet motor spins the turntable much faster than an induction disposal: Moen lists 2700 RPM for the GX75C and about 2800 RPM for 1 HP GX models; Waste King lists about 2600 RPM for the Legend 2600. Fast start-up is marketed as reducing jams.
Grinding works the same way as other disposals: swivel lugs throw food against a grind ring. GX models use stainless grind components.
Waste King EZ Mount is a plastic twist-on mount with a removable splash guard and about a 3-1/8 in drain opening. The Pro 3-bolt mount is stainless with a built-in splash guard and about a 3-3/8 in opening. Whirlaway Pro and Waste King Custom keep the 3-bolt mount.
Most residential units ship with an attached cord (Waste King notes Whirlaway 191 and 291 as exceptions) and may be hardwired without voiding the warranty. A red manual reset protects the motor.
