InSinkErator Evolution / Advanced series disposals: quick sheet

Covers: Evolution-branded continuous-feed units: older Evolution Excel (1 HP, 3-stage), Evolution Septic Assist (3/4 HP, 2-stage) and the current Advanced Series Evolution 35SS (5/8 HP), 45SS (3/4 HP) and 55SS (1 HP). Confirm the exact model from the label; many older Evolution SKUs are discontinued.

Evolution is InSinkErator's premium tier: multi-stage grinding (MultiGrind), stainless grind parts, extra insulation (SoundSeal) and anti-vibration mounting. Current EZ Connect versions use an automatic-reset overload instead of the classic red button, which changes the reset procedure. They hang on the same Quick Lock mount as Badger units.

Safety first

  • Never reach into the chamber
  • Breaker off before electrical work; unplug EZ Connect units
  • Live voltage tests are caution work: insulated probes, one hand

How it works

The motor (1725 RPM induction on the models listed) spins a stainless turntable with lugs, as in any InSinkErator. MultiGrind adds extra cutting stages: a second or third shred stage (an undercutter and/or an extra cutting ring below the main grind ring) so particles are cut finer before they leave the chamber. Excel and the 35SS/45SS are listed as 3-stage; the 55SS as 4-stage; Septic Assist as 2-stage.

SoundSeal is extra insulation and a sealing baffle around the chamber; Evolution also uses an anti-vibration mount, which InSinkErator recommends for ceramic and fireclay sinks.

Overload protection differs by generation. Older Evolution units have a manual red reset on the bottom. EZ Connect / Advanced units list automatic reset protection: after a trip, turn the wall switch off (or unplug an air-switch unit) and let it cool for up to about 20 minutes, then try again.

EZ Connect units have a plug-in electrical port: they can take the separately sold EZ Connect cord or the included hardwire adapter. The older Excel had a jam sensor that briefly boosted torque when it detected a jam; the current Advanced pages describe high torque but no named jam sensor.
