Rheem Prestige R96V (and Ruud equivalent) 96% two-stage variable-speed EcoNet furnaces: quick sheet
Covers: Rheem Prestige Series R96V EcoNet-enabled two-stage, variable-speed (ECM) multi-position 96% AFUE furnaces (Rheem lists the installation manual as R96V (RFQA-), document 92-24161-124). Model examples from the Rheem spec sheet: R96VA0402317MSA, R96VA0602317MSA, R96VA0702317MSA, R96VA0702521MSA, R96VA0852521MSB, R96VA1002521MSA, R96VA1152524MSA. Rheem's model decode: R (Rheem) + 96 (efficiency) + V (ECM motor) + A (design series) + input (040 = 42,000 BTU/h, 060, 070, 085, 100, 115) + remaining digits for airflow/cabinet and options. Ruud sells a matching furnace under its own model numbers; check the plate.
A condensing two-stage furnace with a variable-speed blower and an EcoNet control that reports equipment status, run times, filter monitoring and time-stamped alarm history to the EcoNet smart thermostat and app. Rheem's general furnace codes (see the Rheem/Ruud furnace quick sheet) may help, but the exact code list for this platform was not found in an accessible Rheem document, so read the code legend on the door and the EcoNet alarm history.
Safety first
- Gas valve, manifold pressure and venting changes go to a licensed gas technician.
- Never jumper pressure, limit or rollout switches.
How it works
Two-stage gas valve and variable-speed ECM blower; the control offers one-hour automatic retry, power and self-test diagnostics and flame-sense current diagnostics (Rheem spec sheet).
With an EcoNet thermostat, faults show under the current alarms / alarm history with descriptions; without it, read the furnace control display.
Heating airflow targets are set by control DIP switches (the spec sheet lists airflow by SW15/SW16 positions).
