York / Coleman / Luxaire TM8E and TMLE 80% single-stage ECM gas furnaces: quick sheet
Covers: Johnson Controls TM8E (standard) and TMLE (low NOx) 80% single-stage multi-position furnaces with a 5-speed standard ECM blower, 40-130 kBtu/h. Model examples from the technical guide: TM8E040A12MP11, TM8E060A12MP11, TM8E080B12MP11, TM8E100C16MP11, TM8E120C20MP11, TM8E130D20MP11. Pattern: TM8E/TMLE + input + cabinet letter (A 14-1/2, B 17-1/2, C 21, D 24-1/2 in) + nominal airflow (12, 16, 20 = 1200, 1600, 2000 CFM) + MP + revision. Older TG8S and the two-stage TM8V are related families with their own literature.
A 33 in tall induced-draft 80% furnace with aluminized-steel tubular heat exchanger, hot surface ignition, single-stage gas valve and a control board with a tri-color LED and LAST ERROR button. It uses the same flash-code scheme as the TM9E condensing family. Vertical venting is standard; horizontal sidewall venting needs an approved auxiliary power venter. Filters are field-installed outside the cabinet.
Safety first
- Never jumper safeties.
- Gas valve and manifold work, venting changes and rollout causes go to a licensed gas technician.
How it works
Heat call: pressure switch proven open, inducer on, switch closes, igniter warm-up, gas valve opens, flame proven, blower on after the heat-on delay.
Flame sense: Johnson Controls literature gives normal flame current of about 3.7 µA DC, with a low-flame warning below that range (exact thresholds in the installation manual).
The board stores the last five fault codes; read with LAST ERROR only when no thermostat call is active.
