LG QNED80 / QNED85 (2022-2024): quick sheet

Covers: LG quantum-dot LCD QNED lines: QNED80 (2022 QNED80UQA, 2023 QNED80URA, 2024 QNED80T) and QNED85 (2022 QNED85UQA, 2024 QNED85TUA, e.g. 65QNED85TUA). Sizes about 50-86 in (98 in on some 2024 lines). The backlight changes by year: the 2022 QNED85 is mini-LED, the 2024 QNED85T is edge-lit (direct LED on 86/98 in).

Same series name, very different hardware by year. Before diagnosing, read the full model number: the 2022 QNED85UQA uses a mini-LED backlight with local dimming; the QNED80 and the 2024 QNED85T are mostly edge-lit. Panels are IPS-type (wide viewing angle, gray blacks). Platform is webOS.

How it works

Power board feeds the main board and the LED driver; the main board (webOS) feeds the panel timing electronics.

2022 QNED85: many small LEDs behind the panel in dimming zones. QNED80 and 2024 QNED85T: LEDs along the edge with a light guide, so a failed edge strip gives a dark side or a dim screen.

IPS-type panels show gray blacks and some glow in a dark room. That is normal and is not a backlight fault.

One-remote control depends on HDMI-CEC over the ARC/eARC cable. Disabled CEC, the wrong HDMI port, an optical connection, a poor cable or a TV update that switched settings off cause nearly all of these calls.

Dropouts usually come from an unstable ARC/eARC handshake or a format the chain doesn't handle well. Work through cable, firmware, CEC conflicts and the TV's digital audio format; optical is a stable fallback without Atmos.

Projectors protect themselves: overheating, lamp at end of life, and lamp-cover interlocks all stop the light source. Read the indicators against the model's table, then fix airflow, lamp seating or lamp life.
