GE Profile PHS930 / PHS93XYP 30-inch induction slide-in range: quick sheet
Covers: GE Profile 30-inch front-control induction slide-in ranges with convection: early versions PHS930SL (stainless), PHS930BL (black stainless) and PHS930FL (slate), about 2018-2020; later PHS930YP (fingerprint-resistant stainless) and PHS930BP (black stainless) with No Preheat Air Fry, about 2020 onward, plus the PHS93XYP variant that GE parts listings group with PHS930YP. Revision digits sit inside the suffix (for example PHS930YP5FS, PHS930BP7TS). GE now lists PHS930YPFS as no longer manufactured. Read the full model and serial from the rating label (on slide-ins it is usually on the frame behind the storage drawer) before ordering boards.
A 240 V, 40 A induction slide-in with five cooktop positions (four induction zones plus a 100 W warming zone), Glide Touch controls on the front glass (no knobs), a 5.3 cu. ft. true-convection oven, Wi-Fi (SmartHQ), and self-clean with a steam-clean option. The two left zones can be synchronized into one long area for a griddle. Most calls are not hardware: wrong or off-center cookware (power level flashes, then the zone shuts off), reduced output on 208 V supplies, or touch controls changing settings after spills. Real hardware faults usually mean a dead cooktop with a working oven, one side of the cooktop dead, or a failed board, and the repair is a board-level swap.
Safety first
- Turn off both legs of the 40 A breaker before opening the range; verify dead with a meter.
- Generator boards hold a high-voltage DC bus on large capacitors: wait several minutes after power-off and measure before touching. Board work is trained-technician only (caution).
- Live checks at the terminal block are 240 V: insulated probes, one hand, dry floor.
- Do not use the cooktop if the glass is cracked.
- Re-engage the anti-tip bracket every time the range is moved.
- Users with pacemakers or implanted devices should follow their doctor's guidance about induction zones.
How it works
Cooktop power path: line voltage enters at the terminal block, passes through a filter board and is switched to induction generator (inverter) boards that drive each copper coil at high frequency. GE parts listings name separate left and right generator boards for this family, so a fault that kills both zones on one side points at that side's generator board or its supply. The magnetic field heats the pan directly; the warming zone is a low-wattage (100 W) element for holding food, not a cooking zone.
Pan detection: GE states that when no suitable pan is found, or the pan is lifted or off center, the zone's power level flashes (older GE induction text calls this a flashing F) for about 25 seconds and then the zone switches itself off; a pan removed for more than about 30 seconds also ends the zone. Cookware must be magnetic, flat, and large enough for the ring (GE quotes about 5 in. as a general minimum); a large pan with a small magnetic disc can still be rejected.
Sync and Power Boil: the two 8 in. left zones (2,500 W each) can be linked so one control runs both for a griddle or long pan. The 11 in. right-front zone is the 3,700 W Power Boil zone. Settings are made by sliding a finger along the Glide Touch strip for each zone rather than turning a knob.
Oven: a bake element (2,850 W) and a broil element (4,000 W), plus a fan with its own convection element behind the rear cover for true convection and No Preheat Air Fry on later suffixes. An RTD sensor in the cavity feeds the main control. Self-clean drives a motorized door lock; steam clean is a low-heat cycle with water poured on the oven floor.
Supply voltage matters: GE rates the range at 12.5 kW on 240 V and 10.4 kW on 208 V, both on a 40 A circuit. GE's own support text says homes on 208 V get less heat and suggests using a lid; slower boiling on 208 V is expected, not a fault.
