Café CHS900P / CHS950P 30-inch induction slide-in range: quick sheet
Covers: Café (GE Appliances) 30-inch front-control induction slide-ins: CHS900P single oven with warming drawer and CHS950P double oven, in stainless (P2MS1), matte black (P3MD1) and matte white (P4MW2); revision digits appear inside the suffix (for example CHS900P2M1S1, CHS950P2M2S1). Owner reports date the first CHS900P units to about 2019. Canadian versions carry a C prefix (CCHS900P2MS1, CCHS950P2MS1). The earlier Café CHS90XM is a different, 5.3 cu. ft. model and is not covered here. Confirm the full model and serial on the rating label before ordering boards.
The Café pair shares the GE induction cooktop layout used on the GE Profile PHS930 (same five positions and wattages per GE's own spec data) but differs where techs feel it: the cooktop is run by front knobs (Café hardware kits list six knobs and two handles) with a glass touch panel for the oven, the CHS900P has a larger 5.7 cu. ft. oven plus an electric warming drawer, and the CHS950P has two separate ovens. Both are 40 A ranges, but the CHS950P draws up to 15.2 kW, the highest of this family. Expect the same induction call mix (cookware, 208 V, board failures) plus double-oven and warming-drawer faults, and a reported Bluetooth smart-pan lockout.
Safety first
- Turn off both legs of the 40 A breaker before opening the range; verify dead.
- Generator boards hold a charged DC bus after power-off: wait and measure before touching (caution, trained technicians only).
- Live supply checks are 240 V: insulated probes, one hand, dry floor.
- Do not use the cooktop with cracked glass.
- Re-engage the anti-tip bracket after every move.
How it works
Shared GE induction platform: GE's spec comparison lists identical cooktops on both Café models (two 8 in. 2,500 W sync zones on the left, 11 in. 3,700 W Power Boil right front, 6 in. 1,800 W right rear, 6 in. 100 W center warming zone). GE parts data lists the same right generator board for some Café and GE Profile induction models, so board-level diagnosis follows the GE induction approach in the PHS930 quick sheet.
Knob input: turning a cooktop knob sends a position to the electronic control, which shows the setting (owners describe a percentage readout) and commands the generator board. The knobs are not power switches; a zone that shows a setting but will not heat is a cookware, generator or supply problem, not a knob problem. GE lists low-end outputs for the CHS900P zones of about 31-100 W, so very gentle simmer settings are normal.
CHS900P oven and drawer: single 5.7 cu. ft. cavity with hidden bake (2,850 W), 8-pass broil (4,000 W) and true convection (2,500 W) with Precise Air, No Preheat Air Fry, self-clean with steam-clean option and an automatic door lock. Below it, an electric warming drawer with high/medium/low and a melt setting replaces the storage drawer.
CHS950P double oven: upper oven 2.4 cu. ft. (6-pass broil 3,000 W, hidden bake 2,650 W, no convection fan); lower oven 4.3 cu. ft. (8-pass broil 3,600 W, hidden bake 2,650 W, true convection 2,500 W). Each cavity has its own temperature sensing, so a sensor or element fault usually affects one oven only. Self-clean and steam clean apply per oven.
Smart features: Wi-Fi (SmartHQ) and compatibility with Hestan Cue Bluetooth cookware. On one CHS950P, a smart pan sending bad Bluetooth data was reported to lock out the whole cooktop until its batteries were removed and the range power-cycled (single field report).
