Bosch 800 Series and Benchmark induction cooktops: quick sheet
Covers: Bosch built-in induction cooktops sold in the US: 800 Series 30 in. NIT8069UC (frameless) / NIT8069SUC (steel frame) and NIT8060UC; 800 Series 36 in. NIT8666UC and NIT8660UC; Benchmark 30 in. NITP068UC and Benchmark 36 in. NITP669UC (plus NITP660UC/S-frame variants). Most of these models are now listed by Bosch as no longer available, but they remain common in service. Confirm the exact model and FD (production) number on the rating label under the cooktop before ordering parts.
These are BSH-platform glass induction cooktops with DirectSelect touch controls (17 power levels), SpeedBoost/PanBoost on every zone and, on newer models, Home Connect Wi-Fi with hood pairing. The 30 in. models have four zones (Benchmark NITP068UC adds a FlexInduction area); the 36 in. models have five zones including a triple-ring zone (Benchmark NITP669UC adds two FlexInduction areas). Most calls are cookware or installation problems (wrong pan, overheating from poor ventilation, wrong supply voltage) that show as F- or U-codes; true hardware faults are a dead zone, a dead control, or a failed cooling fan, and the fix is usually a board or coil module rather than a component-level repair.
Safety first
- Turn off the cooktop breaker (both legs of the 208-240 V circuit) before lifting the cooktop or opening the chassis.
- Induction power boards hold a high-voltage DC bus on large capacitors; wait several minutes after power-off and verify before touching. Power-board diagnosis and repair is for trained technicians only (caution).
- Live voltage checks at the junction box are 240 V: insulated probes, one hand, dry floor.
- Do not operate a cooktop with cracked glass.
- Pacemaker and implanted-device users should follow their doctor's guidance about distance from induction zones.
How it works
Each zone is a flat copper coil under the glass, driven by an inverter on the power (induction) board. The inverter rectifies the 208-240 V supply to a high DC bus and switches it at high frequency through the coil; the alternating magnetic field induces current directly in a ferromagnetic pan base, so the pan heats and the glass only warms from the pan. A temperature sensor under each coil and sensors on the power electronics let the control limit power and shut a zone down when something overheats.
Pan detection: when a zone is switched on, the board pulses the coil and judges the load. A non-magnetic, too-small or badly off-center pan is rejected and the power level display flashes; on BSH cooktops the zone switches itself off if no suitable pan is found within roughly 90 seconds. FlexInduction areas are built from several coils that the control combines when cookware covers them; on flex models with the 'moving pot' feature (marketed as PowerMove), the flex area is split into front, middle and rear sections with preset power levels, so sliding the pan changes the heat.
Cooling: a fan under the glass pulls air across the power board heat sinks and exhausts it, and it can keep running after cooking until the electronics cool. If the electronics get too hot (blocked ventilation, hot cabinet, hot pan resting near the controls), the control derates or shuts zones off and shows F2/F4/E7015 or F5. SpeedBoost/PanBoost borrow power from the neighbouring zone, which is why two zones on the same side cannot both run at full boost.
Supply monitoring: the control checks the incoming voltage at power-up and during use. A supply outside the acceptable range (wrong wiring, a missing leg, a bridged connection) is reported as U400 or E9000/E9010. Home Connect models also report network/hood pairing problems as E7010; that code does not stop the cooktop from cooking.
