Install · Range / OvenEvery freestanding and slide-in range must be secured with the anti-tip bracket that ships with it, fixed to the wall or floor and engaged by the rear foot. Electric ranges connect with a cord to a 240 V receptacle; gas connections are for a licensed gas installer.
Guide · Range / OvenAn electric range runs its electronics and lights on 120 V (one hot leg to neutral) but heats with 240 V across both legs. If one leg is lost, the range looks alive but cannot heat properly. Typical causes are half of the double-pole breaker tripped or failed, a burned terminal block or cord connection, or a damaged receptacle. A building on 208 V will heat, just more slowly.
Guide · Range / OvenElectric and many gas ranges and wall ovens have a cooling fan that protects the controls, door and cabinetry; it keeps running after the oven is off until the controls area cools, and cannot be switched off. Running for a while after a long or hot bake is normal; running with the oven cold, starting at power-up or never stopping points to a fan thermostat stuck closed, a welded relay, a bad temperature sensor reading or a control fault. A fan that never runs is a safety issue because the controls overheat.
