Samsung top-load washer (WA, impeller / VRT): field service manual
Covers: WA-series top-loaders with a low-profile impeller (wash plate) or agitator, including Vibration Reduction Technology (VRT) models, roughly 2010 onward.
Samsung WA top-loaders hang the outer tub from four suspension rods and turn the basket and impeller from a motor under the tub. A clutch assembly, moved by a small clutch (shift) motor, switches the drive between wash (impeller only) and spin (impeller and basket together). A lid lock holds the lid closed in the cycle. Banging and unbalance on these models is very often worn suspension rods.
Safety first
- Unplug and shut off the water before opening the top.
- Drain the tub before tipping the cabinet.
- Allow the motor drive to discharge before touching the board or motor leads.
- Keep hands out of the basket during any spin test.
How it works
Start: the board confirms the lid is closed and, on lid-lock models, locks it. A lock that will not confirm stops the cycle with a dC/dL family code.
Load sensing: before filling, the board turns the dry basket briefly and measures how it coasts to estimate load size, then picks the water level.
Fill: the inlet valve admits hot/cold water (some models through a dispenser). A pressure sensor on an air hose from the tub reports water level.
Wash: the clutch is set to wash, so only the impeller or agitator moves, alternating direction to roll the clothes.
Shift: before spin the clutch motor moves the clutch to the spin position. The board watches a position signal from the clutch; if it does not see the expected position it shows PE/PC (some models PE1/PC1).
Drain and spin: the drain pump (or drain motor/valve on some models) empties the tub, then the basket ramps up. The board watches basket speed and vibration; an out-of-balance load triggers rebalancing fills and eventually a UE/Ub code.
Lid release: the lid unlocks once the basket stops.
