Compact & budget portable washers: field service manual
Covers: Portable and compact top-load washers (about 1.6-2.0 cu ft) that connect to a sink with a quick-connect adapter, plus simple twin-tub units.
Low-cost units with a small motor, a pump or gravity drain, a lid switch, a water-level sensor and a simple board. Most calls are installation problems: faucet adapter leaks, low pressure at the sink, a drain hose set too high or kinked, and unbalanced small loads. Error-code meanings differ between brands and even between models, so read the code against the unit's own manual.
Safety first
- Unplug before opening panels. Plug into a grounded (GFCI where required) outlet near water.
How it works
Fill from the faucet adapter to a pressure-sensed level. Low faucet pressure or a partly open faucet causes a fill timeout.
The lid switch must be closed for agitation and spin.
Imbalance: the control retries to rebalance; after several failures it stops and shows a code.
Drain: by pump, or by gravity on some units; a drain that does not finish within the time limit sets a drain code.
