Samsung dishwasher: field service manual

Covers: Samsung DW80-series 24 in built-in dishwashers (including StormWash, zone wash and Waterwall models), roughly 2012 onward. Component layout varies a lot by series; use the model's parts diagram.

Samsung units use a leak sensor in the base, a circulation (wash) pump and drain pump on a sump, a heater, a temperature sensor and, on many models, a motor-driven distributor that routes water between zones. Waterwall models use a stationary jet and a moving reflector (vane) that sweeps the tub. Codes come in two forms (for example 5C/5E for drain).

Safety first

  • Breaker and water off before opening the base.
  • Pump leaks can short the pump; check for water before powering up.
  • Watch for glass in the sump.

How it works

Fill: the inlet valve fills to level. Samsung asks for 20-120 psi; below 20 psi the supply valve may fail and not shut off properly. Hot supply should be 120-149 °F. Low supply sets 4C/4E; low level sets 9E.

Wash: the wash pump sends water to the arms. On zone-wash/StormWash models a distributor (diverter) motor routes water between zones; if it cannot find position the unit shows PC/PE. On Waterwall models a vane motor moves a reflector along a rail (7E fault if it binds; packing tape left on is a common new-install cause).

Heating: the heater and temperature sensor keep wash and rinse temperatures; HE flags incorrect temperature, HC overheating and tE a sensor reading out of range.

Drain: the drain pump empties the sump; 5C/5E (also shown as SC/SE) means it cannot drain.

Flood protection: a leak sensor in the base pan sets LC/LE when moisture is detected; over-level sets OC/0C/oE. Oversudsing from the wrong detergent can trigger both.

Controls: main and display boards talk to each other (CE/CA if they lose contact); a key held about 30 seconds or moisture on a touch panel sets bE-type codes.
