Samsung WA50R5200 / WA50R5400 top-load washer (5.0 cu ft, Active WaterJet): quick sheet

Covers: WA50R5200AW (white) and WA50R5200AV (brushed black), 27-inch 5.0 cu ft impeller top-loaders with VRT Plus and Active WaterJet; WA50R5400** is a close step-up sibling (check its own parts list). ENERGY STAR lists WA50R52**A* from February 2019 (R = 2019). Matching dryers: DVE50R5200* electric and DVG50R5200* gas. Note: WA50R is NOT one of the series in the December 2022 Super Speed recall (WA49B, WA50B, WA51A, WA52A, WA54A, WA55A).

Very common builder and rental top-loader: low-profile pulsator (impeller), direct-drive inverter motor, 750 rpm spin, a built-in faucet (Active WaterJet) for pretreating, and Deep Fill. Safety first

  • Unplug and shut the taps before opening the cabinet.
  • Drain the tub before tipping the washer.
  • Live-voltage checks at the board, valve or motor connectors are caution work.
  • If a unit shows heat damage or a burning smell, unplug it and do not run it again.

How it works

The lid must lock before agitation and spin. The inlet valve fills (hot, cold and the Active WaterJet faucet path) while the pressure sensor tracks level; Deep Fill adds extra water when selected.

A polypropylene pulsator at the bottom of the basket moves the load; a direct-drive motor under the tub turns it during wash and the whole basket during spin (Samsung lists the motor as direct drive with a 10-year warranty on the digital inverter motor).

Before spin the board checks balance; VRT Plus and the suspension rods limit wobble. An uneven load, unlevel feet or worn rods produce UE/Ub and a cycle that stops before spin.

Water leaves through a drain pump at the base. Top spin is 750 rpm, so loads come out wetter than from a front-loader; that is normal.
