NewAir AB-1200 126-can freestanding beverage fridge (AB-1200, AB-1200B, AB-1200X and variants): quick sheet
Covers: NewAir 126-can, 3.4 cu ft freestanding compressor beverage fridges: AB-1200 (stainless), AB-1200B (black), AB-1200X, AB-1200BC1 and branded editions (e.g. AB-1200BP). Freestanding only: rear/side breathing, not for under-counter installs. Variant specs differ slightly; confirm with the label inside the cabinet.
A common bar / office / man-cave beverage cooler. Small compressor, manual dial with 7 settings, no digital readout, glass door. It is not a wine cooler and not built-in rated. The usual complaints are 'not cold enough' (it is designed to bottom out in the high 30s °F, not 34 °F), noise, and failures after being boxed into cabinetry or put in a hot garage.
Safety first
- Unplug before cleaning the condenser or defrosting.
- Sealed system (compressor, tubing): diagnose and refer to an EPA 608-certified technician; R600a is flammable, so no open flames near a suspected leak.
How it works
A mechanical thermostat dial (7 settings) cycles the compressor. There is no display, so the only way to check performance is a thermometer in a glass of water or among the cans.
Heat is rejected through a rear condenser; the cabinet needs open air around it. Because it is freestanding, enclosing it in a cabinet starves the condenser and the unit runs long and warm.
Cooling is from a cold plate / evaporator inside; frost can build on it and must be defrosted per the manual. Packing cans tight against the back wall blocks cold-air circulation and can freeze cans touching the evaporator.
The published range is 37-65 °F. A customer expecting near-freezing drinks will report it as 'not cold enough' even when it is working.
