Covers: Danby freestanding beverage centers (e.g. 120-can DBC120 class) and compressor wine coolers (e.g. 38-bottle dual zone, DWC series). Some older beverage centers use a mechanical thermostat; newer dual-zone units use digital controls with HI/LO display.

Budget compressor units found in homes, offices and bars. Danby states these are not designed for outdoor or non-temperature-controlled spaces (garages, porches, carports) and that such use voids the warranty, so a garage install is the first thing to check on a no-cool call. A brief HI on the display after loading or a door left ajar is normal.

How it works

A small compressor and fan-forced evaporator cool the cabinet; the fan may cycle every few seconds and frequent compressor cycling is normal. The 120-can beverage center is listed at about 43-57 F with a mechanical thermostat; dual-zone wine units cover about 41-64 F.

Front-breathing installation is required for built-in use: the front must stay open and the cabinet must not be fully enclosed. Freestanding units need the clearance in the manual.

After shipping on its side the unit must stand upright for 6 hours before power-up so oil returns to the compressor.
