Maytag MDB4949SK (MDB4949SKZ) dishwasher: quick sheet
Covers: Maytag 24 in front-control (full console) MDB4949SK* built-in dishwashers with stainless tub and Dual Power Filtration (Z = fingerprint-resistant stainless; B/W color variants). Whirlpool-built electronic platform.
A front-control Maytag with a stainless tub, 14 place settings and a 50 dBA rating. Its selling point is Dual Power Filtration: a microfilter plus a 4-blade stainless chopper that cuts soil small enough to drain. It is built on the Whirlpool electronic platform, so F#E# codes, the 1-2-3 diagnostic entry and Whirlpool-family parts apply.
Safety first
- Turn off the breaker or unplug before removing panels; a hard-wired unit is still live at the junction box until the breaker is off.
- Close the supply valve before touching the inlet valve or water line.
- Let the unit cool; the element and water can burn.
- Wear cut-resistant gloves in the sump and around the chopper.
- Never bypass the float or leak switch.
How it works
Fill: the control opens the water inlet valve for a timed fill; the float and float switch in the tub floor are the overfill guard. The unit is designed for a hot supply line.
Wash: a single wash motor circulates water through the spray arms. Before the water returns to the pump it passes the microfilter, and larger soil reaching the sump is cut up by the stainless chopper blade so it can be pumped out by the drain pump. Cycles include Auto, Normal, PowerBlast (heavy soil, higher pressure and temperature) and Quick; the exact list varies by listing, so check the control panel.
Heat and dry: an exposed element in the tub floor raises water temperature for high-temp options and heats the air for Heated Dry. With Heated Dry off, drying depends on residual heat and rinse aid.
Sensing and protection: a thermistor/OWI-type sensor under the sump reports water temperature (and soil on sensor cycles). A leak-detect float in the base stops the fill and runs the drain if water collects there.
