PRO units are sold through plumbing supply houses rather than big-box stores and carry longer in-home warranties. They share InSinkErator's mounting and hex-socket jam release. Spec sheets of different years conflict on warranty length and on manual vs automatic overload reset for the PRO 750, so read the label and the care booklet before telling a customer what they have.

How it works

Induction motors run at about 1725 RPM; PRO 750 uses multi-stage grinding and PRO 1100XL adds a Jam-Sensor circuit that boosts torque when a jam is sensed.

Continuous-feed units run from a wall switch or air switch; the batch-feed Cover Control runs only when the cover is in place (retailers describe a magnetic cover switch; one older sheet lists a stopper switch).

Thermal overload protection stops the motor when it overheats; the red reset button is on the bottom on manual-reset versions.

Disposal sink-top air switch (push button) not working

An air switch sends a puff of air down a small tube to a power module under the sink, which toggles the outlet the disposal plugs into. Check the disposal itself first, then the tube, the button and the module. Some InSinkErator single-outlet SinkTop Switch modules (2005-2017) were recalled for water entry and overheating.

Garbage disposal trips the GFCI (not the breaker)

A GFCI trips on current leaking to ground, not on overload. A wet or failing disposal (bottom leak into the motor, damaged cord, bad splice) is the most likely cause; motor leakage on older units and a shared circuit with the dishwasher can add up. Diagnose the leak; never solve it by removing GFCI protection where the local code requires it.

Garbage disposal hums but won't turn (jammed)

A humming disposal almost always has a jammed turntable: a hard object or packed waste is stopping the motor. Free the plate with the hex wrench from below (or a wrench on the impellers from above), clear the debris, then reset the overload. Never put a hand in the grinding chamber.
