Hotpoint HTW240 (HTW240ASKWS) 3.8 cu ft top-load agitator washer: quick sheet
Covers: Hotpoint (GE Appliances) HTW240ASK*WS 27-inch top-load agitator washer, white with silver backsplash; parts catalogs list production suffixes such as HTW240ASK0WS, ASK2WS, ASK4WS and ASK6WS. A common rental and builder-grade unit from the late 2010s to early 2020s; several retailers now list it as no longer available.
A basic Hotpoint top-loader with a heavy-duty agitator, stainless basket, rotary-electronic control with status lights, 10 cycles, 4 water levels with load sensing, and a 700 rpm spin. Mechanically it belongs to the GE electronic top-load family, so lid lock, mode shifter and drain faults dominate the calls.
Safety first
- Unplug before removing the top or console.
- Turn off both faucets before removing the inlet hoses.
- Never defeat the lid lock to watch the spin.
- Tip the washer only with help and with the tub empty.
How it works
Start: the lid lock engages before the cycle proceeds; with the lid not confirmed, the washer will not spin.
Fill: inlet valves fill to the selected or sensed level, tracked by the pressure sensor.
Wash: the mode shifter couples the motor to the agitator; the variable-speed motor reverses for the wash stroke.
Drain/spin: the drain pump empties the tub, the shifter moves to spin and couples the basket, which ramps to about 700 rpm while the control watches for imbalance.
