GE Profile PVM9005 2.1 cu ft over-the-range microwave (PVM9005SJSS): quick sheet
Covers: GE Profile PVM9005SJ** 30-inch over-the-range sensor microwave (stainless PVM9005SJSS; parts catalogs list production revisions such as PVM9005SJ1SS through PVM9005SJ8SS). Sold for many years in the 2010s-2020s; GE's page now says no longer manufactured. Rating label: inside the door frame or behind the vent grille.
A large-capacity GE Profile OTR with sensor cooking, a 14.25-inch turntable, a bottom control panel and Chef Connect (syncs the clock and vent/light with compatible GE ranges). Retail data lists 1,000 W cooking and a 400 CFM vent. Field calls are the usual OTR mix: vent fan, light, door switches/fuse, no heat and keypad. Every internal test is HV work.
Safety first
- The HV capacitor can hold a lethal charge with the unit unplugged. Only trained technicians open the cabinet: breaker off, unplug, discharge, verify 0 V.
- Never run the microwave with the outer case off or with an interlock bypassed.
- Remove the unit with two people; it hangs on a wall plate and top bolts.
- Use only metal duct for exhaust.
How it works
Door interlock switches must all be in the correct state before the control energizes the HV transformer; a door switch failure often blows the line fuse.
The HV transformer, diode and capacitor drive the magnetron; the waveguide cover protects the waveguide opening from grease and food.
A humidity/steam sensor ends sensor cycles; the turntable motor and light run with cooking.
The vent blower has multiple speeds and pulls air through grease filters; a thermal sensor can start the fan automatically when the cooktop below is hot (normal behavior).
