GE portable dehumidifiers (AHM / AHK series and APER / APHR 50-pint): quick sheet
Covers: GE portable dehumidifiers: older AHM30/40/65 and AHK30/40/50/65 families, and newer APEL/APEW/APER 50 and APHR50 (built-in pump). Code tables differ between generations; confirm on the model's owner's manual.
GE-branded portables built by an outside OEM. GE states repair parts for its portable dehumidifiers are generally not available, so in-warranty failures are usually handled by replacement. Field work is limited to setup, drain, filter, airflow and code reading.
Safety first
- Unplug before handling the bucket area or hoses.
- Sealed-system faults are blocked: refer or replace (EPA 608).
How it works
Compressor-driven refrigeration coil removes moisture; a humidistat compares room RH to the setpoint and cycles the compressor. After power is restored there is a protective delay of up to about 3 minutes before the compressor restarts.
When frost builds on the coil the compressor stops and the fan keeps running until the frost clears; older models show P1 while this happens. Rooms below about 41 F reduce performance and cause frequent defrost.
Water collects in a bucket with a float that stops the unit and lights the bucket indicator when full or not seated (P2 on older models). A gravity hose or, on pump models, a pump hose sends water to a drain; a pump is turned on from the panel.
