GE GTW465-series top-load washer: quick sheet

Covers: GE GTW465ASN** top-load agitator washers (white GTW465ASNWW; production suffixes such as ASN0WW to ASN9WW appear in parts catalogs). Late-2010s to early-2020s; GE's product page now marks the model as no longer manufactured. Read the full model and suffix on the rating label under the lid before ordering parts.

Single sourceBrands: GE8 components

A 27-inch, 4.5 cu ft top-loader with a stainless basket and a dual-action agitator, one of GE's best-selling builder and big-box washers. It is an electronic-control machine with a lid lock and a mode shifter under the tub, so it diagnoses like the rest of GE's late-model top-loads, not like the old mechanical GE units. Deep diagnostics: see the GE top-load and front-load washers field service manual.

Safety first

  • Unplug before opening the top or cabinet
  • Never defeat the lid lock to watch spin
  • Check GE and CPSC recall lookups with the full model and serial before repairing

How it works

Start and fill: the lid locks, the control can run Adaptive Fill (load sensing) or one of four manual levels, and the inlet valves fill until the pressure sensor reports the target level. Deep Fill adds water on request.

Wash: the mode shifter sets the drive so the motor turns only the dual-action agitator, reversing it for the wash stroke. Motor speeds are variable, so the control changes stroke for each cycle and soil level.

Drain and spin: the drain pump empties the tub, the shifter moves to spin and couples the basket, and the basket ramps to about 700 rpm while the control watches for imbalance. The lid stays locked until the basket has stopped.
