GE GFW550-series front-load washer: quick sheet
Covers: GE GFW550SSN** smart front-load washers (white GFW550SSNWW; parts catalogs list suffixes such as SSN0WW, SSN1WW, SSN2WW, SSN4WW and SSN5WW). Early 2020s; GE's product page now marks the model as no longer manufactured. The rating label is inside the door opening.
A 28-inch-wide, 4.8 cu ft stackable front-loader with Wi-Fi (SmartHQ), Sanitize with Oxi and GE's UltraFresh Vent System with OdorBlock, which vents the drum between loads to cut down on gasket odor. Most calls are drain, door-lock and odor/leak complaints. Deep diagnostics: see the GE top-load and front-load washers field service manual.
Safety first
- Unplug before removing panels
- Drain the filter slowly into a pan; water can be hot after a Sanitize cycle
- Never force the door while the lock is engaged
How it works
Start: the door lock engages and the control confirms it before any water enters. Fill runs through the dispenser while the pressure sensor tracks level.
Wash and rinse: the drum tumbles with low water; Sanitize with Oxi uses higher water temperature with an oxygen-bleach additive. Between loads the UltraFresh vent lets moisture escape from the tub.
Drain and spin: the front drain pump empties the tub through a removable filter, then the drum ramps in stages while the control checks for imbalance before the final spin.
