GE GDF650 front-control dishwasher (GDF650SYVFS / GDF650SMVES): quick sheet
Covers: GE GDF650S*V** 24-inch front-control built-in dishwashers: GDF650SYVFS (fingerprint-resistant stainless) and GDF650SMVES (slate); other color suffixes may exist. The top-control GDT650SYVFS is the sibling with the same feature set. Sold roughly 2021-2024; GE's page now says no longer manufactured.
A popular mid-range GE front-control unit: stainless tub, 16 place settings, 47 dBA, three wash arms, four bottle jets, a Piranha hard-food disposer, Steam + Sani and Dry Boost. It also has Active Flood Protect leak detection, so a wet base pan stops the unit. Calls are mostly drain, fill, heat/dry and leak-detect.
Safety first
- Breaker off before removing the toe kick; a hard-wired unit can be live at the junction box.
- Close the hot-water valve before touching the inlet valve.
- Let the element and water cool after a Sani cycle.
- Never bypass the float or leak sensor to make the unit run.
How it works
Fill: the inlet valve fills to the level set by the float/level control; the circulation pump then feeds the lower, middle and upper spray paths plus four bottle jets in the upper rack. Wash Zones can run upper or lower only.
Soil handling: the hard-food disposer at the sump chops soil so it can drain, and a filter screen holds fine particles.
Heat: a tub-floor element heats water for Steam + Sani and Wash TempBoost and heats air for drying; a thermistor reports water temperature.
Dry Boost: a fan exhausts moist air at the end of the cycle (GE claims up to three times drier plastics than heated dry alone).
Leak detection: Active Flood Protect senses water in the base and stops the cycle.
