Café CVE28DP 4-door French door with convertible drawer (CVE28DP2NS1 / CVE28DP3ND1 / CVE28DP4NW2): quick sheet
Covers: Café (GE Appliances) CVE28DP* 36-inch standard-depth 4-door French door: CVE28DP2NS1 stainless, plus black and white Café finishes (e.g. CVE28DP3ND1, CVE28DP4NW2). Parts catalogs list production suffixes such as CVE28DP2NBS1, NCS1, NES1, NGS1 and NHS1. Late 2010s onward.
A 27.8 cu ft Café 4-door: two French doors over a full-width convertible middle drawer and a bottom freezer drawer, with an external ice/water dispenser, AutoFill (sensor-controlled pitcher fill), Wi-Fi and an XWFE filter. It uses R600a refrigerant. Calls usually involve the convertible drawer temperature, the ice maker and the dispenser.
Safety first
- Unplug before removing covers or panels.
- R600a (isobutane) is flammable: no open flame, torches or sparks near the sealed system. Sealed-system diagnosis beyond symptoms is blocked: refer to an EPA 608-certified technician.
- Shut off the water before opening water fittings.
- Never chip ice off the evaporator.
How it works
Convertible drawer: a middle drawer with six presets (Soft Freeze, Meats, Beverages, Snacks, Wine, and a Lock setting) spanning about 23-42 °F. Cold air reaches it from the freezer through a damper/fan path, and a dedicated drawer thermistor reports to the control.
Ice: an automatic ice maker supplies cubed and crushed ice to the door dispenser.
AutoFill: sensors in the dispenser area measure the container and stop the fill; dirty sensors cause overshoot or short fills.
Refrigerant is R600a (isobutane): the sealed system is referral-only and the gas is flammable.
