Bosch 500 Series SHPM65Z55N dishwasher: quick sheet
Covers: Bosch 500 Series pocket-handle SHPM65Z55N (stainless) and close siblings in the SHPM65Z family; sold approx. 2019-2023 (inferred from listing and review dates; Bosch now lists it as no longer available).
One of the best-reviewed mid-range dishwashers in the US: 16 place settings, 44 dBA, three racks and a stainless tub. On top of the Bosch heat-pump platform it adds AutoAir, a door that opens at the end of the cycle to help PureDry condensation drying. Third-rack derailing, drain codes and the base-pan leak code (E15) are the usual calls.
Safety first
- Turn off the breaker (or unplug) before removing the toe kick or any panel; a hard-wired unit can still be live at the junction box.
- Close the hot-water supply valve before touching the inlet valve or supply line.
- Let the unit cool after a cycle: the heating element, heater housing and water can be hot enough to burn.
- Sump and filter areas often hold broken glass; wear cut-resistant gloves.
- Never bypass the float, flood or leak switch to make a unit run; find the source of the water instead.
How it works
Fill and wash: same Bosch design as the 100 Series. A flow meter measures fill, and the heat pump under the tub circulates and heats water with no exposed element. The 500 adds a third-rack spray feed, so the upper rack has to dock correctly to the water inlet at the back of the tub.
Sensing: the Aquasensor (turbidity) and NTC temperature sensor let the control adjust Auto-type cycles. Options include Half Load, Delicate, Sanitize and EfficientDry.
Drying: PureDry condensation drying, assisted by AutoAir. Near the end of the cycle a small door-opening actuator pushes the door ajar to let steam out. If the door does not pop open, check that the actuator is not blocked by cabinetry or a panel misadjustment.
Leak protection: base-pan float with constant pump-out. The product page is inconsistent on AquaStop (spec table says no, highlights say yes); check the supply hose: an AquaStop hose has a thick box at the valve end.
