Whirlpool Corporation's value top-loader sold in huge numbers to landlords and builders. It is a Whirlpool vertical-modular-style design: belt-driven gearcase, a shift actuator that changes between agitate and spin, a separate drain pump, a pressure sensor for water level and a late lid lock. Forum techs most often trace fills-and-washes-but-won't-spin to the shift actuator or the lid lock, after reading codes in diagnostics.
Safety first
- Unplug and turn off the faucets before opening panels.
- Never bypass the lid lock; one technician warns it can also damage the control.
- Live-voltage tests are caution work.
- Tip the washer only with help and with the tub drained.
How it works
Fill: hot and cold valves fill to a level read by the pressure sensor (Deep Water Wash adds water).
Agitate and spin: one motor drives the gearcase by belt; the shift actuator moves the drive between agitate and spin. The lid must lock before spin.
Drain: a separate pump empties the tub; the control watches drain time.
The control stores fault codes that are read in the diagnostic mode; Whirlpool-family F-codes such as F7E1 (motor speed), F9E1 (long drain) and LdL / Lid lock faults apply.
