LG dishwasher (QuadWash / TrueSteam): field service manual
Covers: LG 24 in built-in dishwashers including QuadWash and TrueSteam (LDT/LDP/LDF/LDTS/LSDT series), roughly 2014 onward.
LG uses an inverter direct-drive wash motor (no belt), a separate drive for the QuadWash multi-motion arms, a drain pump, a heater, a temperature sensor, a float-type leak sensor in the base and, on TrueSteam models, a steam generator. Vario spray models have a motor/valve that splits flow (nE code). Codes are two letters (OE, IE, AE, FE, HE, tE, bE, nE, LE).
Safety first
- Breaker and water off before opening panels.
- Watch for glass in the sump.
How it works
Fill: the inlet valve fills to level; if level stays low for about 10 minutes the unit shows IE. LG install guides ask for hot supply at 120-149 °F; above 149 °F connect to cold. Pressure limits vary by model (20-80 psi on some guides, 20-120 psi on others); check the model's guide and add a pressure reducer when above its maximum.
Wash: the inverter direct-drive motor turns the wash pump; QuadWash arms rotate and sweep at the same time. On Vario models a motor/valve shifts spray intensity and zones; a dish touching the impeller or a bad Vario unit sets nE.
Steam: TrueSteam models heat a small amount of water into steam before the main wash to soften baked-on soil. Scale in the generator reduces steam output.
Heating: a heater and temperature sensor control wash/rinse temperature; HE = not heating, tE = sensor fault.
Drain: drain pump empties the tub; OE if not draining. LG asks that the drain hose end be held up about 12 in (30 cm) above the floor to stop back-siphon.
Flood and suds protection: a float in the base pan sets AE; excess water/overfill FE; suds bE. Oversudsing from hand soap is a common trigger for all three.
