Hotpoint (GE Appliances value line): washer, dryer, top-freezer and electric range
Covers: Hotpoint-badged appliances sold in the Americas by GE Appliances (a Haier company): top-load washers (e.g. HTW240), electric dryers (e.g. HTX24), top-freezer refrigerators (e.g. HPS18) and coil/radiant electric ranges. European Hotpoint (Whirlpool-owned) products are unrelated and not covered.
In the US, Hotpoint is GE Appliances' budget brand and its products share GE platforms. Parts lookups list the same models under GE and Hotpoint names. Service a Hotpoint with the matching GE manual: ge-washer, ge-dryer, ge-side-by-side-french-door-refrigerator (for controls and diagnostics logic), electric-range-coil-and-radiant and ge-whirlpool-range-controls. What differs is the simpler console: mechanical timers on some washers, knob-only service-mode entry and fewer sensors.
Safety first
- Unplug before servicing; ranges and electric dryers use 240 V.
- Refrigerator sealed system: refer to an EPA 608-certified technician.
- Keep clear of moving parts in washer service tests.
How it works
Top-load washer: GE-built agitator washer with a belt-drive transmission and, on many models, a mode shifter/shift actuator and clutch; some models use a mechanical timer. Service mode on electronic models is opened from the cycle knob while holding Start/Pause, and stored faults are flashed on the console lamps.
Dryer: GE dryer layout. The thermal fuse sits on the blower housing and is reached from the rear panel on the HTX24 family; the heater circuit and high-limit follow ge-dryer.
Top-freezer refrigerator: a single freezer evaporator and fan feed the fresh-food section; frost-packed coils point to the defrost circuit, clear coils with poor cooling point to the evaporator fan, condenser or damper/control.
Electric range: coil or radiant top with bake/broil elements controlled by infinite switches and an oven control or thermostat; see electric-range-coil-and-radiant.
