Haier portable / compact washer (US): field service manual
Covers: Haier (GE Appliances) portable top-load washers that connect to a sink faucet, such as the HLP21N/HLP24E family. Full-size and front-load Haier washers are not covered.
Haier portables are small pulsator-style top-loaders that plug into a 120 V outlet, fill through a quick-connect adapter on a kitchen faucet and drain into the sink through a hose. Most service calls are installation problems (adapter, aerator, hose height, extension cords) rather than failed parts. They use a simple lid switch, not a lid lock.
Safety first
- Unplug before servicing.
- Use a grounded outlet; never an extension cord.
How it works
Fill: water comes from the faucet adapter through the inlet valve; low faucet flow or a restrictive aerator slows fill and can set a fill code.
Wash and spin: a small motor drives the wash plate and basket; overloads or an unlevel cabinet stop spin.
Drain: a pump pushes water through the drain hose into the sink; the hose end must stay below the top of the tub and must not be pushed so far in that it siphons or kinks.
Lid: a lid switch stops the machine when the lid is open; open-lid codes appear if the switch does not close.
