GE / GE Profile / Café dishwasher: field service manual
Covers: GE-built 24 in built-in dishwashers (GDF, GDT, PDT and Café CDT series and similar). Profile and Café models add AutoSense turbidity sensing and more wash zones. Fault and service modes vary by control; the steps below were documented for GDF-series LED controls.
GE units use a calrod-type heating element in the tub, a circulation pump and a separate drain pump on a sump, a flood/float switch and, on Profile/Café, an optical turbidity sensor that sets cycle length. Display models show codes like H2O, C1, C2 and C3; LED models flash the Start light, and some read faults from an LED on the control board under the unit.
Safety first
- Breaker off before opening the toe kick or door.
- Water off before disconnecting the inlet.
- Service-mode load tests run live voltage: caution, hands clear of terminals.
- Watch for glass in the sump.
How it works
Fill: the inlet valve opens on time and level; if the level never rises the control stops and shows H2O on display models. GE requires a hot line of 20-120 psi at about 120 °F.
Wash: the circulation pump feeds the lower arm, mid arm and upper sprayers; Profile/Café models add zones and bottle jets.
Heating: the tub heating element warms the water while the thermistor (in the sump wall or sump floor) reports temperature. Sanitize cycles must reach about 150 °F; if water does not reach target, display models set C3 and cycles run long.
Soil sensing: on AutoSense models an infrared LED and receiver in the sump read clarity; grease film on the window makes the machine over- or under-wash. A quick check is to run a timed cycle (Normal/Heavy) instead of AutoSense: if timed cycles finish normally, suspect the turbidity sensor.
Drain: the drain pump empties the tub through a check valve; slow drain codes (C1/C2) vary in meaning by model.
Dry: heated dry uses the element; some models add a fan or vent. Rinse aid is still required.
Flood protection: a float/flood switch stops fill on overfill or water in the base.
