Ranges and wall ovens: reading F-codes and F#E# codes (GE, Whirlpool family) and when a reset is safe

Oven F-codes point to a circuit: temperature sensor, door lock, keypad or control. GE ovens show F plus a number; Whirlpool-family ovens show F#E#. Both makers tell owners to clear the display, cut power at the breaker for a short time and watch whether the code returns. A code that returns is a real fault. An over-temperature code is a safety stop: do not keep using the oven.

Induction cooktop buzzing, humming, whining or clicking

Most induction noise is normal: the magnetic field makes the pan vibrate (worse with thin or layered-base pans and at high power), the electronics click as they pulse power at low settings or share power between zones, and a cooling fan runs during and after cooking. A fault is a sound that is new and much louder than before, mechanical (grinding, rattling, whining that tracks the fan), present with no pan, or comes with error codes, a silent fan or a cracked glass top.

Oven cooling fan keeps running after the oven is off (or never runs)

Electric and many gas ranges and wall ovens have a cooling fan that protects the controls, door and cabinetry; it keeps running after the oven is off until the controls area cools, and cannot be switched off. Running for a while after a long or hot bake is normal; running with the oven cold, starting at power-up or never stopping points to a fan thermostat stuck closed, a welded relay, a bad temperature sensor reading or a control fault. A fan that never runs is a safety issue because the controls overheat.
