Samsung DV dryer (electric & gas): field service manual

Covers: Samsung DV-series 27-inch front-load-companion dryers with digital display (DVE electric / DVG gas), including models with vent-blockage sensing.

Single sourceBrands: Samsung11 components

Samsung DV dryers are fully electronic: a main board drives the motor and heat relays, reads a thermistor and moisture bars, and reports two-character codes (HE/hE, tO/tS, dF, 9C1, C8/C9). Airflow is the root of most heat codes. Many models run a vent-blockage test and report the result as a C code.

Safety first

  • Unplug before panel removal; live 240 V checks are caution steps
  • Gas models: electrical tests only, with gas and power off; gas lines, valve body and pressure go to a licensed gas technician
  • Do not unplug during a firmware download code (dn)
  • Never bypass thermal protectors

How it works

Electric heat: the board closes a heater relay to send 240 V through the element, which is wired in series with a high-limit thermostat and a thermal fuse; a cycling thermostat and the exhaust thermistor regulate temperature. Low supply voltage gives weak heat and HE-type codes.

Gas heat: hot-surface ignition with a flame sensor and two-coil valve, in the same general sequence as other US gas dryers. Only the electrical parts may be tested.

Airflow: the blower pulls air through the heater, drum and lint screen to the rear exhaust. Restricted exhaust is the leading cause of temperature and heating codes per Samsung.

Moisture sensing: two bars inside the drum below the door opening. Vent sensing: models with this feature run a test and report Clg, C80/C8 (about 80 percent blocked) or C90/C9 (over 90 percent).
