Whirlpool WFW6720R / WFW5720R front-load washers with FreshFlow vent: quick sheet

Covers: Whirlpool WFW6720R** (5.0 cu ft US / 5.8 cu ft IEC; ENERGY STAR base model H24JAK50) and WFW5720R** (4.5 cu ft US / 5.2 cu ft IEC; base model H24JAL50). ENERGY STAR lists WFW5720R on the market from July 2024 and WFW6720R from August 2024 ('R' is the 2024 model-year letter). Paired dryers per ENERGY STAR: YWED6720R** (electric, with the 6720) and WGD5720R** (gas, with the 5720). This is a newer platform than the WFW5620H / WFW560CH sheet.

Whirlpool's 2024 27 in stackable front-loaders. Techs recognise them by the FreshFlow Vent System: a fan that blows air through the drum and door seal after the wash (FanFresh option) and a Dry Drum cycle, plus an antimicrobial-treated door seal. Both use a direct-drive, inverter-driven variable-speed motor and an internal water heater. The WFW6720R is the larger drum and adds the AI-style load and fabric sensing Whirlpool markets as Intelligent Wash. Safety first

  • Unplug before opening panels; the motor control and heater circuit run on 120 V and can hold a charge briefly.
  • Do live voltage checks only when the test calls for them, with insulated probes.
  • Water in the drum and trap can be hot after Sanitize; let it cool before draining.
  • Never bypass the door lock.
  • Use two people to move or unstack the washer (about 222 lb).

How it works

After the door locks, the control weighs the load by turning the drum, then fills through the dispenser to a low level. On the WFW6720R, sensors that read load size and fabric type adjust water, temperature and wash motion (retailer description of AI Intelligent Wash).

The direct-drive inverter motor turns the drum at controlled speeds in both directions for wash and ramps up for spin. Spin speed is user-selectable (Fast, Medium, Slow, Off on retailer listings). An internal heater raises water temperature for Sanitize and Extra Hot settings.

After the cycle, the FreshFlow fan can push air through the drum and the door boot (FanFresh, with periodic tumbling) to cut moisture and odour; the Dry Drum cycle runs the fan on an empty drum. The machine runs on a 120 V, 15 A circuit and is Wi-Fi connected for remote start and notifications.

Suspension is two springs and four dampers per retailer spec sheets. Because the tub is held on springs and dampers, worn dampers show up as walking, banging and out-of-balance stops in spin.

Whirlpool family washers & dryers: reading F#E# codes, Service Diagnostic Mode and fault history

Whirlpool-family electronic laundry stores its last few faults as a pair: the F number names the system and the E number names the suspect part. Most knob-and-button consoles reach Service Diagnostic Mode by pressing three buttons in a set order three times in a row within a few seconds; newer touch consoles use a different entry. Samsung splits codes into information codes (a user or installation condition such as swapped hot and cold hoses or an unlatched door) and real error codes. The same fault may read differently by generation: older machines used E-numbers or 4E-style codes, newer ones 4C-style, some top-loaders nF. Wi-Fi models push codes to SmartThings when they happen; Smart Care is a separate camera-based check that only reads its own test, not real codes. Many models also keep a stored-code list in a service mode whose buttons vary by model.

All the major brands build in a cleaning cycle and remind the user about once a month or every 20-40 loads: Whirlpool about every 30 cycles, LG after about 30 cycles ('tcL'), Samsung after 40 washes on front-loaders and 20 on top-loaders. A pro service adds what the cycle misses: the door boot, dispenser, drain pump filter on front-loaders and a hose inspection.

Whirlpool WTW6157P-series top-load washer with 2-in-1 removable agitator: quick sheet

Whirlpool WTW6157P** (WTW6157PW white, WTW6157PB Volcano Black; first engineering revision WTW6157PW0 seen in parts listings). ENERGY STAR lists it as available on the market from May 2023 (the 'P' letter is the 2023 model-year code in Whirlpool numbering). 5.3 cu ft US (DOE) class, about 6.1 cu ft IEC in Canada. The smaller WTW5057L** also carries a 2-in-1 removable agitator but differs in capacity (about 4.7-4.8 cu ft) and listed spin (about 770 rpm), and our sources do not confirm the two share the same agitator parts, so it is NOT covered here.

Maytag Pet Pro MVW6500M washer and MED6500M / MGD6500M dryer pair: quick sheet

Maytag Pet Pro System launched August 2022: washer MVW6500M** (MVW6500MW white, MVW6500MBK Volcano Black), electric dryer MED6500M** (YMED6500MW in Canada) and gas dryer MGD6500M**. The 'M' letter is the 2022 model-year code. Not found in the ENERGY STAR washer or dryer lists. Maytag later added front-load Pet Pro models (per a 2025 Maytag release); those are not covered here.
