Whirlpool WFE505W0J 30-inch electric range: quick sheet
Covers: Whirlpool WFE505W0 freestanding glass-top electric ranges with Frozen Bake: WFE505W0J* (JS stainless, JW white, JB black, JZ fingerprint-resistant) and the earlier WFE505W0H* generation. Approx. 2017-2024 for the WFE505 series per repair-site data.
A 5.3 cu. ft. self-clean electric range sold in very high volume at big-box stores. Recognize it by the FlexHeat dual element at left front, a 100 W warming zone at center rear, the Frozen Bake and Keep Warm keys, and a membrane keypad with Whirlpool's F#E# code format. Typical calls: bake element burn-through, the FlexHeat outer ring not heating, glass breakage, keypad codes and stuck relays.
Safety first
- Turn off the range breaker (both legs of the 240 V circuit) before removing any panel; unplugging the cord is not always possible on a pushed-in range.
- Glass cooktops stay hot well after the hot-surface light goes out; let the unit cool before handling elements or the control.
- Install or confirm the anti-tip bracket every time the range is pulled out and pushed back.
- Live voltage checks at the relay board or terminal block are 240 V: use insulated probes and keep one hand clear.
How it works
Cooktop: knob-controlled radiant elements, each on an infinite switch. The FlexHeat element has inner (6 in.) and outer (9 in.) rings; the switch adds the outer ring only in its dual range, so 'small ring only' points to the switch or the outer ring itself.
Oven: the electronic oven control (EOC) reads the RTD sensor and switches bake and broil through relays. Frozen Bake is a programmed bake profile (adjusted times, no separate heater). Keep Warm holds a low setpoint.
Self-clean: the EOC drives a lock motor and reads lock switches before heating; lock disagreement produces F5-family codes.
Supply check: on many Whirlpool controls the board monitors the incoming L1/L2 supply and flags a miswire or missing leg (F9E0 on supported controls).
