Trane ComfortLink II XL850 and Trane Link (UX360) communicating controls: quick sheet

Covers: Trane ComfortLink II XL850 smart control (TCONT850AC52UA), ComfortLink II XL1050 and the Trane Link UX360 smart thermostat for Trane Link systems. The XL824 is a Wi-Fi thermostat for conventional systems (not covered in detail).

Single sourceBrands: Trane6 components

The XL850 is built for Trane variable-speed communicating systems; it is not a drop-in for ordinary single-stage, two-stage or multi-speed 24 V equipment unless a Trane 24 V relay panel is added. Trane Link UX360 is the controller for Trane Link systems and, with the Link zone thermostat and the XL1050, one of the few Trane controls that support Trane zoning. Most service calls are compatibility mistakes (wrong control for the equipment) and communication wiring.

Safety first

  • Power off before wiring
  • Outdoor and indoor units carry line voltage: CAUTION
  • Refrigerant-circuit faults are BLOCKED: refer to an EPA 608-certified technician

How it works

The XL850 has a 4.3-inch color touchscreen, controls up to 2 cooling and 5 heating stages, and connects to the Trane Home app with Alexa and Google voice support. It also has a built-in Z-Wave bridge.

Used on conventional 24 V equipment, Trane requires its relay panel BAY24VRPAC52 between the XL850 and the equipment.

The UX360 is the centre of a Trane Link system; Trane's zoning only supports the Link zone thermostat, the UX360 and the XL1050.

Trane's installation literature calls for 18-gauge color-coded thermostat cable, says shielded cable is not usually needed, and asks that the cable be kept at least a foot from large inductive loads.
