Speed Queen TR3 / TR5 / TR7 top-load washer (2017+): quick sheet
Covers: Speed Queen (Alliance Laundry Systems) residential agitator top-loaders TR3, TR5 and TR7, product codes such as TR3003WN, TR5003WN, TR5006WN and TR7003WN (the label also carries a long model number, e.g. AWN63RSN119TW01 on the TR5006WN). One dealer source says the TR line came out in 2017 and replaced the AWN432SP (TR3), AWNE82SP (TR5) and AWNE92SP (TR7); confirm the date from the serial plate. Not covered: the TC5 'Classic' mechanical washer, which has its own sheet.
These are commercial-style 3.2 cu ft agitator top-loaders with electronic controls and a lid lock. The TR3 and TR5 use knobs with status lights and report faults as flash patterns on pairs of status lights. The TR7 has a fuller display. Warranty runs 3, 5 or 7 years (parts and labor) by model, so check who is authorized before you bill a repair. Most calls are fill, drain, lid lock and out-of-balance complaints.
Safety first
- Unplug before opening any panel.
- Diagnostic mode runs the motor, valves and lock with panels on; keep hands out of the tub during agitation and spin tests.
- Shut off the faucets before removing hoses or the inlet valve.
- Check warranty status first: these units carry 3-7 years of parts and labor through authorized providers.
How it works
All three share a 3.2 cu ft stainless wash tub in a porcelain outer tub, an agitator and a variable-speed 1 HP motor. The TR models use a separate drive board for the motor, which is not the case on the TC5.
The lid lock is delayed: the lid stays unlocked during the first fill and agitate so items can be added, then locks. After a pause it unlocks in about 10 seconds during agitate, or up to about 60 seconds during spin (user's guide).
The washer does not heat water. Wash temperature comes from the house supply, so 'cold wash' complaints in winter can simply be the incoming water.
Faults show as status lights that flash a set number of times, pause, and repeat. Read which two lights are flashing and count the flashes before you open the cabinet.
A two-hand diagnostic mode on the TR3/TR5 (see below) checks every light, knob, valve, the lid lock, agitation, drain and spin, one step at a time.
