Samsung ME21R OTR microwave (ME21R7051SS): quick sheet
Covers: Samsung 2.1 cu ft over-the-range microwaves ME21R7051SS (fingerprint-resistant stainless; other ME21R finishes share the platform, confirm by label), sold about 2018 onward; R = 2018-19 model letter (Home Depot and dealer listings).
High-volume 30-inch OTR with sensor cooking, 1000 W output and a 400 CFM vent. Field calls are dominated by the 'SE' display code (keypad/touch panel short, often moisture/grease related) and touch control failures, then the usual OTR door-switch and magnetron faults.
Safety first
- Unplug before removing the outer wrapper; never run the oven with the cabinet off.
- The high-voltage capacitor (transformer models) or inverter board can hold a lethal charge after unplugging: discharge per the service data with an insulated, resistor-type tool before touching anything.
- Never measure live high-voltage circuits; all HV component tests are done powered off.
- Door switches, interlock and door seal must be correct before return to service; a misaligned door is a microwave leakage risk.
- If the oven arcs, smokes or shows burn marks in the cavity, stop and inspect the waveguide cover and cavity paint before reuse.
- OTR units weigh about 58 lb: two people to remove from the wall plate.
How it works
Control board reads the touch panel and sensor, closes the interlock chain and switches the HV transformer circuit for the magnetron. Vent fan and cooktop lamps run independently of cooking.
Moisture from the cooktop below rises into the controls; steam and grease behind the touch panel are commonly blamed for SE (key short) errors.
A 10-year magnetron warranty was listed by retailers; check before quoting a magnetron.
