Midea MRU17B2AWW single-door convertible upright freezer (four-LED panel): quick sheet
Covers: Midea MRU17B2AWW white single-door upright (user manual dated 2023). The model number suggests the 17 cu ft class, but the manual leaves capacity blank; confirm on the rating plate. Differs from the digital-display Midea uprights (e.g. MRU14B3ASL, see qs-convertible-freezer-refrigerator): this one has only four LEDs and one Setting button.
Frost-free (air-cooled, automatic defrost) upright that can run as a freezer or a refrigerator. No temperature digits: three LEDs show Cold / Colder / Coldest and a fourth shows Freezer vs Fridge mode. Faults are shown by two LEDs flashing together. Common calls: "only fridge-cold" (it was switched to fridge mode), panel "not responding" (it is locked), and sensor-fault light pairs.
Safety first
- Unplug before removing panels.
- Sealed-system concerns: diagnosis only; refer to an EPA 608 certified technician.
How it works
One Setting button does everything: hold 3 seconds to unlock the panel, then press to step through Cold / Colder / Coldest, or hold 3 seconds to swap Freezer and Fridge mode. The panel relocks itself after a short idle period (the manual mentions both 15 and 30 seconds).
Mode indicator: the FRZ./REF. light is ON in freezer mode and OFF in fridge mode. A freezer that "only gets to 40 F" with that light off is in fridge mode, not broken.
Ranges per the manual: freezer mode about 10 F to -8 F; fridge mode about 35 F to 45 F. Default is freezer mode, Colder.
Frost-free design (fan-forced air over a hidden evaporator with automatic defrost). Light frost after seasonal humidity changes can be wiped off; heavy frost on the back panel is a defrost fault.
After a power loss it restarts by itself; the manual says to expect normal operation in 3 to 5 minutes.
