Genie Excelerator screw-drive openers (H8000, ISD990, ISD995, ISD1000, PRO99, CMD9900): quick sheet
Covers: Genie Excelerator series DC screw-drive openers with Intellicode remotes and Series II electronics: H8000, H8000-07, H8000D, ISD990, ISD995, ISD1000, PRO99, PRO99-21C, PRO99FN and CMD9900. The green status LED under the lens gives the blink codes below. Legacy Genie AC screw drives (Medallion, Direct Lift, first-generation Excelerator, IS/ISL/IC and H series) share the carriage-replacement procedure but not these codes. Genie's ChainLift/QuietLift trolley units are covered in qs-genie-chainlift-quietlift-800. The model and serial label is on the power head. Search terms: Genie Excelerator blinking light, Genie screw drive won't close, Genie ISD990 5 blinks, Genie screw drive carriage stripped, Genie Excelerator overheated.
A ceiling-mount opener in which a long threaded screw inside the rail turns and drives a magnetic carriage back and forth. Travel is set by sliding two magnetic limit switches along the rail, and open and close force by two knobs on the power head; neither is set at the factory. A status LED blinks a 1-8 code for most faults. The typical wear item is the carriage, whose internal threads strip, often because the screw was not greased or a limit switch failed.
Safety first
- Unplug the opener before working on the rail, carriage or wiring; the circuit boards are light sensitive, so keep the cover on when powered.
- Release the carriage only with the door closed when possible: broken or weak springs can let an open door drop fast.
- Never adjust springs, cables or bottom brackets; a stripped carriage can be a symptom of a spring problem, so have a door technician check the springs first.
- Do not reset the opener during a 3-blink overheat; wait the 10 minutes with power on.
- Use the minimum force needed and always finish with the 2x4 test; the door must reverse within 2 seconds.
How it works
A DC motor in the power head turns the drive screw. The carriage rides on the screw; its magnet trips the close limit switch (brown wire) and the open limit switch (white wire) mounted on the rail, which tell the board where to stop.
Open force and close force are set with two knobs (LO to HI). The opener learns the door on its first run and moves slowly the first time. It also watches door balance: a poorly balanced door or worn spring can cause a 1-blink code.
A timer and cycle counter protect the electronics from overheating. If the opener is cycled too often it stops answering and shows 3 blinks; it must be left plugged in for 10 minutes to recover.
Safe-T-Beam: the source has a red LED and the sensor a green LED. Both glow steadily when aligned. A blinking source LED points to alignment, obstruction or interference, and the door will not close until it is fixed.
