Frigidaire FFUE2022AW 20 cu ft frost-free upright freezer (EvenTemp, garage ready): quick sheet
Covers: Frigidaire FFUE2022AW, a white 20.0 cu ft upright freezer (spec sheet version 05/21), successor to the FFFU20 line. Check the rating plate suffix; later revisions may differ.
Frost-free (automatic defrost) upright with LED lighting, wire shelves, door-ajar alarm, power on/off and no digital display, R-600a refrigerant, ENERGY STAR. Retailers market it as garage ready with EvenTemp cooling and a variable-speed compressor. Typical calls: frost on the back panel (defrost fault), door not sealing, warm in a hot garage, and new-install complaints. Status note: dimensions, weight, refrigerant and energy come from one Frigidaire spec sheet (05/21); the EvenTemp/variable-speed description and garage-ready claim come from one retailer page. Confirm on the unit before quoting.
Safety first
- Unplug before removing the rear panel.
- R-600a: no flames or sparks near the machine compartment; sealed system is EPA 608 certified work only (diagnosis only here).
How it works
Frost-free: an evaporator behind the rear panel, a fan that circulates air, and a timed or adaptive defrost heater; melt water drains to a pan under the cabinet. Frost on the back panel with a warming cabinet is a defrost problem, not a reason to hand-defrost (see field-pattern-upright-freezer-warm-frosted-evaporator).
R-600a (isobutane) refrigerant is flammable: no sparks or flames near the machine compartment on a suspected leak, and sealed-system work is referral only.
Retail listings describe the EvenTemp system as a variable-speed compressor with sensing that adjusts airflow; a variable-speed compressor runs long at low speed, so long run time by itself is not a fault.
